Michelle’s Bio

When I was 8 years old I was diagnosed with Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis in all of my joints. I was on antibiotics and steroids from the time I was 8 until I was out of high school. I was told that I would be in a wheel chair before I graduated if I did not slow or stop my activities. This was not an option for me. I was lucky enough to have a diet of “home grown” food from our multiple gardens. I did not realize the difference this made until later in life when my diet changed and I was eating a lot of processed food.
I became a RN and researched and understood Arthritis is an Autoimmune Disease. I just needed to raise my immune system to decrease the pain in my joints. I did this by watching my eating and being careful of my activity level and exercising to prevent fluid build up in my joints.

My digestion was always a battle, 10 years of antibiotics and steroids can wreck havoc on your digestive system. My body did not know how to digest food because the bacteria in my gut were all unbalanced. When you have a bad digestive system and have babies, they get the parent’s gut flora. My kids’ had digestive issues, many severe allergies, skin rashes, many different signs and symptoms. I had a vested interest to find a way to help my boys. I studied and researched how to heal our digestive systems and I became a GAPS Certified Nutrition Practitioner.
I now understand we need to have a symbiosis or balance of good and bad bacteria in our guts to have healthy digestion and be able to pull in the nutrients of our food.
In 2004 I found a Pilates Reformer Class and it was exactly what my body needed to elongate the muscles, move and strengthen and prevent fluid build up while maintaining full range of motion of my joints. I felt like Pilates was an important piece of my puzzle to heal and understanding how to help other heal. I began training as a Pilates Instructor and have been teaching pilates equipment classes since 2004.

I am a Holistic Nutrition/Wellness Consultant, teaching others how they can use food and exercise to stay healthy and/or heal their body. I believe as Hippocrates so wisely quoted so many years ago: “May food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food.” You can heal your body with food.
We all have our our “formula” that works for our body, there is not a one system for all.
I educate people how their body works, ways they can adapt to a healthy lifestyle with ease that fits into their lives so it can become a way of life, and how find the formula that is perfect for their individual body. Wellness and health are a balance of the mind, body, and spirit.
